TW/CW: Sexual Assault; Depictions of rape; violence against women; child sexual abuse

Excerpt:

"Has all Hip-Hop art been violent? Of course not, and we have plenty of examples of artists who steered clear of settling into the lucrative lane of letting loose licentious lyrics about their luck with ladies. There are some artists who didn’t grow up anywhere near the inner-cities and were never exposed to violence in their lives. There are many artists who prefer to use Hip-Hop’s artistic expression in other more empowering or positive ways. Violence, however, particularly directed at women and gay/bi men, has been a big seller in a genre dominated by men who, for generations, have endured all manner of violence enacted upon them."
